A series of works in a grey clay, each of which encapsulates a moment in time in the city.
My ECOSYSTEM vessels portray the intangible feeling of being in a place, the spaces that fill in between the senses through intricate surface stories on clay. They portray in essence my experience of living in the city and that city being its own ecosystem, that ecosystem beautiful due to the unique humans, nature and landscape from which it is formed.
Each piece is hand built using soft slabs of clay, creating shapes which echo both human and architectural forms. Each is a complete one off, standing as an individual with its own story. The intricate surface is built up from layers of painted slips, underglazes and glazes in a range of vivid tones. The shapes and marks in the surface melt from figurative to abstract and back again, giving heed to the ethereal nature of a space which can’t be described through words or photographs.
