I use clay as a dynamic canvas, applying slips, wax, glaze and underglaze in layers, often cutting and drawing back into them to create deep and intricate surface stories. Colours, shapes and motifs within the work reflect my body of research into the diversity, ecology & landscapes in our urban environment. Every piece that I create is hand-built using slabs of clay or hand thrown on the wheel. I use that unique form to guide the marks that I make, appreciating the nuances in surface and individuality of each one.
Unique ceramics, handmade in London, that celebrate the diversity and vibrancy of the city and the ecosystems that move within it.
My work has always emerged from a fascination with what I see everyday, an inherent connection to who and what I see as I walk through the city. This page is an insight into the thoughts, photos, images which form the basis for my material, visual and conceptual research. These are the immediate impressions from my environment, inspiration can spike in the most unlikely places. You will see this imagery appearing throughout my work, through line, colour and form.
